What's Inside?

Chords You Can Actually Use

Chord dictionaries and tab websites are essentially useless when it comes to understanding rhythm. If you know the essential chord shapes and when to use them, playing songs with friends and family is a piece of cake.

Unlock the Fretboard

Many guitarists find themselves stuck in the first 3 frets. In the course library, Jake guides you through the process of applying the right scales and chords to start exploring the fretboard right away.

Learn to Write Songs and Jam

At some point it's not enough to spend your time learning other people's songs. True fluency on the guitar starts when you have the tools to create music of your own.

3 Reasons Why GuitarWise is for you

1. There's a difference between a good guitarist and a good guitar teacher.

While it is easy to find a good guitar player, it can be very difficult to find a good guitar teacher. In fact, it takes just as long to become a good teacher as it does to become a good guitarist. I have taught hundreds of guitarists in schools, universities, art centers and private studios and obsess over developing curriculum that is easy to understand and applicable.

2. Many teachers add in too much extra information.

You know when you click on a video and the teacher just ends up talking the whole time? It takes time and a lot of experimentation to communicate complex concepts in concise simple steps. I edit every video to make sure you get the maximum amount of value in the least amount of time.

3. I test my teaching material on hundreds of guitarists.

I mentor over 70 students a week in my private studio in Austin, Tx and I have been teaching since 2006. If you do the math, you will realize that I have had tens of thousands of private sessions. Only after I have successfully taught a concept to guitarists of all ability levels and ages do I post it to GuitarWise.

What Makes GuitarWise Different?

  • Concepts, not songs

  • Personal, not Generic

  • Campfire, not Bedroom

Concepts, Not Songs

Many guitar players spend all of their time learning songs, and then wonder why the guitar still feels like a foreign object in their hands. When you understand musical concepts like rhythm, barre chords, travis picking and lead playing at a foundational level, you will be able to play songs with ease and even write your own. As you master these concepts, you will feel like the guitar is an extension of your hands.

Here is what Members are Saying...

After several years of "playing" guitar with no training, I started getting frustrated with the lack of progress. I finally decided to get serious and I'm glad I went with GuitarWise. Jake is a very keen teacher, which is exactly what I needed. I've made more progress in the past couple of months than I did in years on my own. More importantly it's been a lot of fun.

I'm in my 50's and just started playing a few years ago. GuitarWise has been perfect, I feel like I'm learning guitar from an old friend. Jake's extremely knowledgeable, encouraging and just a great overall teacher and coach. He's helped me overcome hurdles I never thought I'd achieve and he's a real cool guy dedicated to his craft. Highly recommended GuitarWise!

GuitarWise has given me the confidence to pick up an instrument and feel like I have the ability to play, learn, and develop. I'm 45 and always assumed it was way too late for me to learn, but Jake, with his simple but super effective methodology, has taught me the basics and brought me up to fluid playing without me even realizing it. Several thumbs up, couldn't recommend enough.
